Robert A. Williams Inducted in 2017
Robert A. “Bob” Williams was born and raised in the Bronx, graduating from Theodore Roosevelt High School. He led New York University to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament in 1963, he went on to become one of the first Americans to play professionally in Europe. Williams played and coached in the Rucker League before becoming the first African-American assistant basketball coach at NYU.
Williams co-founded Sports Foundation Inc., where sports and education were key. He is also the founding president of The New York City Basketball Hall of Fame.
