Charles "Chuck" Granby (October 22, 1934—March 2, 2016) was born in North Carolina and attended Morris High School (Bronx). He later attended New York City Community College. He played basketball at Bradley University. There he won a National Invitational Tournament title.

For 45 years Chuck Granby coached his beloved Bull Dog’s team at Campus Magnet formerly known as Andrew Jackson High School in Queens, NY.Coach Granby not only taught basketball but he stressed the importance of an education to his players. Back in 2014, he spoke about life and coaching in this memorable quote.

"I coached here [Campus Magnet, formerly known as Andrew Jackson High School] for 45 years, and I can't think of one bad memory. Every day I wake up I consider myself blessed. The good Lord kept me healthy enough to achieve some success, but I could not have accomplished anything without all of the Great Players I have coached" said Granby.

In 2012, The New York City Basketball Hall of Fame welcomed in Coach Granby with 45-year record 722 Wins - 213 losses PSAL Playoff: 1971-1995 1997-01, division champs 1972-86, 1989-1992, 2001, quarter-finals NYC 1972-1985, 1990, 2001, semi-final PSAL NYC 1973,79,81,82,84,85, PSAL NYC finals 81,82,84,85 PSAL NYC Champs 1985 State Tournament 1984, 85.

Always upbeat and humorous Coach Granby delivered this message on life to his players saying, "If you don't get an education there's a good chance you're going to have what I call the ugly lifestyle. Your dog's going to be ugly, your cat's going to be ugly, you're going to have an ugly car and your wife's going to be ugly. All because you did not go get an education."

The humorous but honest speech Coach Granby gave to his players over the years was a reminder that there was life beyond basketball.
