Stephon Xavier " Starbury" Marbury (born February 20, 1977) is one of NYC's legendary Point Gods. He followed fellow Point God Kenny Anderson to the Gauchos (AAU) and then to Georgia Tech where he played for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for only one season before being . selected as the 4th overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks; and quickly traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. A two-time NBA All-Star and two-time member of the All-NBA Team, Marbury came home and starred for to the Nets (in NJ) - 1999-2001 and later for the Knicks 2004-2009.
Stephon played in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) from 2010 until his retirement in 2018, winning three CBA championships along the way. He was named Finals MVP in 2015, and made three CBA All-Star Games. He then served as head coach of the Beijing Royal Fighters from 2019 to 2023.
The sixth of seven children, Marbury was born and raised in the Coney Island neighborhood of Brooklyn. He attended elementary school, PS 329 and starred at Abraham Lincoln High School where he was named New York State Mr. Basketball, after averaging 27.4 points, 8.3 assists and 3 steals per game as a senior.
Marbury was one of the subjects of Darcy Frey's book The Last Shot, which followed three seniors and Marbury, a freshman, through the early months of his first year at Lincoln.
