Claude “Red” Phillips, Inducted into the NYC Hall of Fame in 1994
Claude “Red” Phillips was a Harlem native who attended Benjamin Franklin High School in New York City. With noted teammate William (Pop) Gates, they led Benjamin Franklin High School to the Public Schools Athletic League championship in 1938. It would be under Nat Holman at City College that Phillips, playing alongside Holzman, emerged as a dazzling guard.
