Ernie Grunfeld Inducted in 1994
Ernest Grunfeld was born in Romanian, he would attend Forest Hills HS in Queens, NY. He attended the University of Tennessee, where he played basketball with future NBA Hall of Famer Bernard King. Nicknamed the "Ernie and Bernie Show", they averaged over 40 points per game. With 2,249 points, he set a new record as the school's all-time leading scorer. The record was broken by Allan Houston in 1993.
Grunfeld was drafted 11th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1977 NBA draft. He played for the Milwaukee Bucks (1977-79), Kansas City Kings (1979-82), and the New York Knicks (1982-86). Career highlights consensus second-team All-American (1977), Third-team All-American – NABC, UPI (1976), SEC Player of the Year (1977), No. 22 retired by Tennessee Volunteers, and Third-team Parade All-American (1973).
