Kevin Francis Joyce was born in Bayside New York, and attended Archbishop Molloy High School. Joyce played at the University of South Carolina. During the 1971 ACC Tournament championship game, he out-jumped North Carolina's 6'10" Lee Dedmon with seconds left to tap the ball to Tom Owens. who made a lay-up to complete a dramatic come-from-behind victory.

Joyce played in the 1972 Summer Olympics, and he later played professionally in the American Basketball Association for the Indiana Pacers, San Diego Sails, and Kentucky Colonels.

Career highlights consensus second-team All-American (1973), and No. 43 retired by the South Carolina Gamecocks.
