Another game, another milestone. Such is the life of Lauren Cargill.
Having already broken the women’s basketball record for career points, the City College senior guard out of Queens Village became the all-time leading scorer in CUNY history Monday night by scoring 25 points in a 70-67 win over Farmingdale.
Not bad for a player who almost gave up the sport after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament in both knees almost exactly a year apart in her junior and senior years at Cardozo.
Cargill, who has 2,205 career points, surpassed Shawn McCartney, who scored 2,184 points at Hunter from 1991-95. Cargill, who shattered the women’s mark of 1,830 set by Hilary Williams of Baruch in 1991, and McCartney are the only two to ever score 2,000 points in the CUNY conference.
