Vern Fleming a New York City native, attended Mater Christi, in Astoria, NY. He later played at the University of Georgia. Fleming won a gold medal as a member of the United States men's basketball team at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. In 1984 he was drafted in the NBA  1st round 18th overall by the Indiana Pacers. Fleming played point guard with the Pacers for eleven years (1984-95), the New Jersey Nets (1995-96), and the Limoges (1996-97).

Career highlights Third-team All-American – NABC (1984), First-team All-SEC (1984), and First-team Parade All-American (1980).
