Vinnie Johnson Inducted in 1996
Vincent Johnson a New York City native, attended Franklin D. Roosevelt HS and began his collegiate basketball career in 1975 at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas. He was a star there for two years, led the team to the NJCAA national tournament in the 1976–77 season, and was named a junior college All-American. Johnson transferred to Baylor University for the 1977–79.
Johnson was drafted in the NBA in the 1st round No. 7 overall pick by the Seattle SuperSonics. He was traded to the Detroit Pistons in November (1979- 1981). He played for the San Antonio Spurs (1991-92). Career highlights 2× NBA champion (1989, 1990), No. 15 retired by Detroit Pistons, and Second-team All-American – AP (1979).
